I see the problem of doing ministry training when you agree with the biblical Jesus rather than the church jesus probably better of doing welfare or psycology at least then an organisation that does do good in the world might recognise your qualification

My construct has undergone some pretty serious demolition over the past few years although I seem to have found a way to reconcile some of it in a way that tries to make a positive impack on the world around me rather than a negative one

I probably can't offer a rational argument for my belief the honest answer is probably just that it is my prefered belief and all of it could be wrong

Like you've mentioned in some of your comments the spectrum of atheism is as broad as christianity

As for me I just try and understand as many points of veiw as I can and enjoy the opportunities for gracious dialouge

Anyhow we veared a ways of the original post but like I said the form of chrisitity that results in people to becoming less tolerant and compasionate than they were prior to is influence is a contridiction the the entire biblical narative

Sadly I have friends and family who serve this form of christianity wholeheartedly

Careful, Pete. I started realising the biblical Jesus wasn't the church Jesus, and eventually I wound up leaving ministry training, then finally undoing the entire construct.

Whatever you do, make sure you're doing the right thing for people. In the absence of anything else hard and fast, it's a good test of intention.

I did get the irony of the situation and agree its probably worse than if he had literally died

Its this type of christianity that has forced me to stop using that name for myself and look for other descriptors a follower of Jesus of nazareth somtimes works

I find it interesting that I feel I have more in common with some people who identify them selves as atheists that manyt people who profess to be little christs (christians)

I hope you dont mind but I think I consider you guys to be the modern day prophets calling the people of God back to right ways of living rather than the profits we find in many churches who seem to be fortune tellers promising better lives to those who serve them

I feel for ya man

The bad news, RePete, is that he's not dead yet, just dead to me.

The man I know has died, but something nasty and racist lives on in his place.

Hey Black
Sorry to hear about the death of your step dad hope the day went as well as these days can go
Almost as sorry to hear about the death of your bio father as someone who tries to follow the example of Jesus I think its totally fucked when religion screws people up like that
Cheers
